Auch in Korea möchten die meisten günstig telefonieren und surfen. Es ist auch sehr nützlich, um sich im großen U-Bahnnetz zurecht zu finden, Restaurants und Bars zu finden oder nach den besten Touristenattraktionen zu suchen. Mit dem Mobilfunkvertrag von zu Hause, kann es aber sehr schnell sehr teuer werden. Also was tun?
Es gibt drei große Mobilfunkanbieter: LG, SK, KT. Es ist jedoch schwer, mit einem Touristenvisum überhaupt einen Vertrag zu bekommen. Es ist zudem unübersichtlich und es kann zu Verständnisproblemen kommen. Ohne Hilfe ist man schnell aufgeschmissen. Es ist ja schon unübersichtlich, wenn man einen deutschen Vertrag abschließen möchte. 🙂 Ganz abgesehen davon lohnt es sich für Touristen oft gar nicht.
In Korea gibt es eine einfache und bequeme Lösung: Evergreen Simcard (EG-Sim).
Was ist EG-SIM?
EG-SIM ist ein Prepaidanbieter für Touristen und Ausländer und nutzt das Mobilfunknetz vom großen Anbieter KT. Der Empfang ist daher hervorragend und zuverlässig. Die Netzabdeckung ist sehr gut.
Wie bekomme ich eine EG-Simkarte?
Es gibt mehrere Möglichkeiten.
Die erste Möglichkeit ist, die Simkarte online zu bestellen: http://www.egsimcard.co.kr
Auf der Website kann man eine Simkarte kaufen (20.000Won, umgerechnet ca. 14Euro). Als Identitätsnachweis gilt ein Foto vom Reisepass. Wenn man weiß, wo man sich aufhält (Hotel/Hostel), kann man sich diese zuschicken lassen. Ansonsten kann man die bestellte Sim auch an einer Abholstelle selbst abholen. Wo man diese abholen kann, kann man auf der Website nachschlagen. Danach einfach Simkarte einlegen, Anleitung befolgen und lostelefonieren. Das aktivieren kann laut Anleitung aber bis zu 24 Stunden dauern. Bei mir hat es 15 Minuten gedauert.
Die zweite Möglichkeit ist, die Simkarte direkt in einem Shop zu kaufen. Dort erledigt auch oft der Verkäufer die Formalitäten und die Aktivierung. Reisepass nicht vergessen! Bei dieser Option ist es sinnvoll, dies direkt am Flughafen zu erledigen. Sowohl am International Airport Incheon, als auch beim Gimpo Airport gibt es dementsprechende Verkaufsstellen (siehe Website). Ansonsten auch in der Stadt, am Hauptbahnhof usw. Achtung: Die Verkaufsstellen sind nicht als “EG-Sim”-Shops gekennzeichnet. Oft sind es Buchläden, Supermärkte oder Touristeninformationen.
Ist die EG-Simkarte mit meinem Handy kompatibel?
Grundsätzlich ja. Die Simkarten gibt es in Form einer normalen Sim, Micro-Sim und Nano-Sim (z.B. iPhone).
Kleiner Tipp: Es ist sicherlich sinnvoll, sich ein altes Handy für seine deutsche Karte zu besorgen. Dann ist man immer erreichbar und kann trotzdem mit seinem Smartphone surfen.
Kann ich direkt lossurfen?
Nein. Mann muss sich auf der Website registrieren und dann ein Datenvolumen auswählen. Die Volumen gibt es von 200MB – 1GB. Achtung: Das Volumen verfällt nach 30 Tagen.
Tipp: Damit man das Volumen nicht allzuschnell aufbraucht, empfiehlt es sich, in Seoul nach Wlan Accesspoints zu suchen. Es gibt in Seoul fast immer eine Möglichkeit, sich in ein kostenloses Wlan Netz einzuloggen (Bars, Kaffees usw).
Wie lade ich mein Guthaben auf?
Wenn man eine Kreditkarte hat, kann man es online machen. Es gibt auch eine App. Die ist jedoch Müll und völlig unbrauchbar. Ansonsten kann man auch in einen der unzähligen kleinen Supermärkte in Korea (z.B. GS25).
Was muss ich tun, wenn ich wieder nach Hause fliege?
Nichts, es ist eine Prepaid Karte. Wahrscheinlich verfällt das Volumen.

While staying in Korea, most people still want to be able to make phone calls and surf the internet. It is also very useful to navigate through the huge subway system, find restaurants, bars and attractions. But with the regular contract from the homecountry it can become very expensive. So what can you do?
There are three major providers in Korea: LG, SK, KT. But with a tourist visa it can be very hard to get a contract. Also it is complicated and the language barrier wont’t make it easier. Further it isn’t reasonable for tourists to make a whole contract.
In Korea there is a easy solution: Evergreen Simcard (EG Sim).
What is EG-SIM?
EG-SIM is a prepaid-provider for tourists and foreigners and uses the KT network. It’s fast and reliable.
Where can I get a EG simcard?
There are several ways.
First there is the possibility to purchase it online: http://www.egsimcard.co.kr
On this website you can buy a simcard (20000Won which is about 20$). For your identification you will need to make a photo of your passport.
If you know where you are going to stay, the card can be sent over to your hotel/hostel/wherever you stay. Otherwise you can pick it up in one of the stores. A list of shops is on their website.
Afterwards just put the card into your phone, follow the instruction sheet and you are good to go. The activation can take up to 24 hours due to the instruction sheet but in my case it took 15 minutes.
Second option is to buy the simcard directly in one of the shops. In most cases the shop owner will do all the registration and activation for you. Don’t forget your passport! If you choose this option, you should do it at the airport. There are shops in every airport of Seoul. Otherwise there are spread all over Seoul (look up the website). Note: The shops are not labeled as “EG-shops”. In most cases these shops are book stores, supermarkets, tourist informations…
Is the EG Sim compatible with my phone?
In most cases yes. They offer simcards in all sizes. Regular, micro sim, nano sim (a.e. iphone).
Can I start surfing right away?
No. You have to open an account on the EG website. Then you can choose between several packages. 200MB – 1GB. The data volume will last 30 days or until you used all of it.
To save data, I recommend to search forAccess Points. In Seoul there are plenty of free internet access points.
How do I reload credit?
With a credit card you can reload it on the EG website. Otherwise you can go to one of the small supermarkets and buy credit. (there are plenty of supermarkets a.e. GS25)
What do I have to do when I go back home?
Nothing. It’s prepaid. Your credit will probably be erased after some time.
